  • Canadiens' David Desharnais: Receives string of DNPs

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7:00 am ET) Desharnais has been a healthy scratch for five straight games.

Desharnais, who is in the final year of his contract, finally appears to be on his last legs in a Montreal uniform. With just 10 points in 29 games, Desharnais is looking at his lowest output since 2010.

Canadiens' David Desharnais: Returns to lineup Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/6/17) Desharnais had three shots over 14:03 of ice time in Sunday's 1-0 shootout loss to the Oilers.

Desharnais was returning to the lineup after being a healthy scratch Saturday against Washington. He centered the third line, pushing Alex Galchenyuk to left wing with Paul Byron on the right. The Habs are getting little offense and are essentially a one-line team right now. Getting goals from anyone not on the top line is a must, but with just four goals this season, Desharnais is an unlikely source of that offense.

Canadiens' David Desharnais: Veteran takes seat in press box

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/4/17) Desharnais was a healthy scratch for Saturday's gme against the Capitals, Chantal Machabee of RDS.ca reports.

Desharnais has an underwhelming four goals and 10 points with a plus-5 rating, putting him on pace for 21 points which would be a career low. He showed chinks in the armor last season, limping to the finish line with just 11 goals, 29 points and a minus-6 after averaging 50 points over his previous two campaigns. Desharnais could be a candidate to be moved by the NHL Trade Deadline on March 1, although he isn't likely to fetch much in return.

Canadiens' David Desharnais: Scores in return to lineup Tuesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/1/17) Desharnais scored a goal and had two shots on net over 14:59 of ice time in Montreal's 5-2 win over Buffalo on Tuesday.

Desharnais returned to the active lineup Tuesday after missing 24 games due to a knee injury, centering the third line with Andrew Shaw and Sven Andrighetto. The goal was just his fourth in 26 games, but Canadiens coach Michel Therrien trusts him and rarely cuts his minutes or shifts. As Therrien attempts to navigate his team without an injured Alex Galchenyuk (knee, IR), he won't hesitate to plug in Desharnais wherever he sees fit, including the power play -- the 5-foot-6 center was part of that unit's second wave Tuesday.

Canadiens' David Desharnais: Will suit up Tuesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/30/17) Desharnais (knee) will be back on the ice for Tuesday's matchup with the Sabres, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.

Desharnais has been sidelined since early December, missing a total of 24 contests. Prior to getting hurt, the center was stuck in a nine-game goalless streak, while managing a mere three helpers, two PIM, and three blocked shots over that stretch. With just nine points on the year, it will be tough for the 30-year-old to top his numbers from the 2015-16 campaign -- 11 goals and 18 assists. With 22 players on the roster, the Canadiens will not need to make a corresponding roster move in order to activate Desharnais off injured reserve.
