  • Flames' Chad Johnson: One-year deal makes him back-up in Calgary

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/1/16) Johnson signed a one-year, $1.7 million contract with the Flames on Friday, reports TSN.ca.

Johnson will be the clear back-up in Calgary, playing second fiddle to Brian Elliott. He's a solid back-up in spurts and delivered a .920 save percentage this past season over 45 games with Buffalo last season. The hometown boy returns to Calgary and the Flames will be solid in the blue paint if Johnson can deliver a season like he did in 2013-14 in Boston -- 27 games and a .925 save percentage

Sabres' Chad Johnson: Notches career-high 22 wins

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/16/16) Johnson finished the season with 45 appearances and a 2.36 goals-against average and .920 save percentage to go with his 22 wins.

Johnson stepped up in a big way this season after incumbent starter Robin Lehner went down with an ankle injury in two separate instances this season. He finished with a 22-16-4 record and one shutout, helping the Sabres finish just one game below .500 after finishing last the previous season. With a ton of depth at the position, it remains to be seen if the Sabres will retain Johnson. No matter what happens, however, Johnson is still not starting material and will continue his career as a capable backup.

Sabres' Chad Johnson: Unavailable Saturday due to minor ailment

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/9/16) Johnson will not be available Saturday against the Islanders, as he's dealing with a minor (undisclosed) injury, John Vogl of The Buffalo News reports.

It's a shame that Johnson's 2015-16 campaign comes to a close due to injury, but fortunately the mystery ailment isn't severe, and the 29-year-old can make peace with how he finished the season in strong fashion. In his final three appearances, Johnson went 3-0-0 with a 1.67 GAA and .938 save percentage. A severe ankle injury to fellow goalie Robin Lehner contributed to Johnson racking up a career-high 40 starts. Despite Buffalo failing to gain much ground in that tough Atlantic Division, Johnson still managed to post a 22-16-4 record. It's been tough for the netminder to establish job security as he just finished off his first campaign with the Sabres, the fifth team he's played for since the Penguins drafted him with a fifth-round pick in 2006.

Sabres' Chad Johnson: Has three-game win streak

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/5/16) Johnson turned aside 18 shots in Tuesday's 3-1 victory over New Jersey.

The 29-year-old netmider carried a shutout into the third period, but was beat on the power play by Jacob Josefson with just under six minutes to play. Johnson has won three straight starts and five of his last six. He's finishing the season strong and could make for a nice fantasy play during the final week of the regular season.

Sabres' Chad Johnson: Starting against Devils

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/5/16) Johnson gets the starting nod against New Jersey on Tuesday, Paul Hamilton of WGR 550 reports.

Johnson will look to turn his two consecutive wins into a streak Tuesday versus a Devils' team that is averaging a league worst 2.20 goals per night. It will be the ninth start in a row for the netminder, who has posted a 5-2-1 record with a 2.36 GAA over that span. With Robin Lerner (ankle) out for the remainder of the season, the 29-year-old may see the bulk of the action, although Buffalo could see what they have in rookie Jason Kasdorf.
