  • Flames' Chad Johnson: Suffers tough-luck loss Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/14/17) Johnson turned in a brilliant performance Friday -- he saved 34 of 36 shots from the Devils -- but was nonetheless saddled with a 2-1 home loss.

Johnson came up with a number of huge saves in this one, though his teammates were having fits trying to put the puck past secondary netminder Keith Kinkaid on the other side of the rink. It's now been four straight starts of Johnson allowing two goals or less.

Flames' Chad Johnson: Defending net Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/13/17) Johnson will guard the goal against the Devils on Friday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.

The Flames keeper will make his fourth straight start and will look to keep up his streak of hot play -- he's allowed just five goals on his way to two wins in his last three outings. Johnson will try to keep it going against an anemic New Jersey offense that ranks 28th in the NHL with 2.19 goals per game.

Flames' Chad Johnson: Recovers from rough first period to down Sharks

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/12/17) Johnson stopped 25 of 27 shots in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Sharks.

He gave up a pair of first-period goals, but shut it down from there on out, marking his third straight outing with a save percentage of .926 or better. That's quite an improvement from the four consecutive sub-.900 efforts Johnson had posted prior to this stretch, and it should help his efforts to hold onto a majority of the starts, particularly after the disastrous line Brian Elliott delivered his last time out.

Flames' Chad Johnson: Ready for Sharks on Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/11/17) Johnson will defend the home cage Wednesday night against the Sharks, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports.

This is the third straight start for Johnson, whose 2.27 GAA through 24 games rounds out the top-10 ranking for starting netminders. A little more than 25 percent of his goals allowed have been of the power-play variety, but that might not be much of an issue in this next contest, as Team Teal is surprisingly ranked 22nd in the league on the man advantage. Johnson has already faced the Sharks this season, taking a 30-save road loss in that Dec. 20 contest.

Flames' Chad Johnson: Offense lets him down in loss to Jets

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/10/17) Johnson allowed two goals on 27 shots during Monday's loss to Winnipeg.

Johnson has allowed just three goals on 56 shots (.949 save percentage) through his past two games, and stands to continue pushing a near 50-50 timeshare in the Calgary crease going forward. Splitting starts with Brian Elliott isn't a bad fantasy situation, and Johnson is worth a roster spot in the majority of seasonal leagues. Additionally, the lack of full-time work will keep his salary down in daily contests and make him a potential bargain to target in favorable matchups.
