  • Hurricanes' Jeff Skinner: Leading scorer for Hurricanes in 2015-16

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/18/16) Skinner finished with a team-high 51 points this season, the third-best total of his six-year career.

What's more -- his injury-plagued past appears to be behind him, as he played in all 82 games this season, the first time he's done that since his rookie season back in 2010-11. Skinner has two years left on his current six-year contract, and figures to be back in a top-six role for the Hurricanes next season.

Hurricanes' Jeff Skinner: Pots in goal for 50 points on year

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/2/16) Skinner scored the lone goal for Carolina in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Blue Jackets.

Skinner was able to find twine for the third time in the last five outings, including two straight. The 23-year-old has refused to be shy around the crease, firing towards net 26 times in that span and seemingly always hungry for more tallies. The winger now sits at 50 points this campaign -- the third time Skinner's reached that feat in his career.

Hurricanes' Jeff Skinner: Tallies first multi-point game in three weeks

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/31/16) Skinner contributed a goal on six shots and an assist to the cause in a 4-3 win over the Rangers on Thursday night.

It's got to be a pleasant change of pace for Skinner's fantasy owners that the points have been coming steadily for him rather than in small bursts -- although this was his first multi-point effort since March 8, he's found the scoresheet in four of his last five and 10 of his last 15 games, tallying up six goals and eight assists in that span. It helps that he's been firing the puck with wild abandon lately, notching 21 shots in the last four games. Skinner's now just a point away from hitting 50 for the third time in his six-year career.

Hurricanes' Jeff Skinner: Nabs helper in win over Jackets

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/25/16) Skinner notched an assist in Thursday's 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Blue Jackets. It was his 10th point in his last 11 games.

Make no mistake, Skinner is having a pretty special season. With 45 points in 74 games, Skinner has returned to fantasy relevance following his disappointing 31-point campaign last year, and with eight games remaining, he has a very good chance of cracking the 50-point mark for just the third time in his career. Furthermore, not only is he hitting the scoresheet with more regularity, he's really made strides in the plus-minus department this year with a +1 rating, compared to -24, -14 and -21, respectively, in the last three seasons. Feel free to deploy him in your fantasy lineup whenever he takes to the ice.

Hurricanes' Jeff Skinner: Plays hero in shootout win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/8/16) Skinner scored two goals -- including the game-tying tally with 0.2 seconds left in the third period -- in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win over Ottawa.

He picked up a loose puck out of a scramble with time running out and simply fired it past Ottawa goalie Andrew Hammond just before the final horn. That was as much heroism as he could muster, as his shootout-opening attempt was denied, but he still did plenty enough to send the Hurricanes on their way to victory. With nine points in his last nine games, Skinner has now pushed his way over 40 for the season, with 25 of those being goals. Fantasy owners still have to feel like there's unrealized potential here, as we're still waiting for Skinner to have a season that matches the 63 points he put up as a rookie in 2010-11. That's highly unlikely to transpire this year.

  • April 6, 2015: Sean Monahan is the Flames' hope for the future
The Calgary Flames are one of the NHL's biggest surprises this season. If their success is going to go beyond this season forward Sean Monahan is going to be a big part of that.
March 28, 2015: Canes' Skinner: Two Points In Last 10 Games
Skinner picked up an assist Saturday in a win over the Devils. It was just his second point in his last 10 games.Skinner has just 32 points in 69 games this season and has never come close to his brilliant 63-point rookie season. Is he a potential 30-goal scorer or just a marginal fantasy play? Right now -- and sadly -- it's the latter.
