  • Canadiens' Darren Dietz: Scores first NHL goal Thursday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/7/16) Dietz scored his first NHL goal and chipped in an assist in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Hurricanes. He also fired four shots on goal.

That's five points in 12 games for the rookie rearguard, who's been showing some promise while up with the Canadiens.

Canadiens' Darren Dietz: Notches first NHL point

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/22/16) Dietz picked up his first NHL point Tuesday against the Ducks, notching the secondary helper on Lucas Lessio's game-winning goal.

He'd gone minus-4 with just two shots and no points in his first four NHL games, but Dietz delivered a nice effort in this one, going plus-2 in his meager 12:05 on the ice. There's not much to see here from a fantasy perspective -- the 22-year-old Albertan has produced a meager four goals and 16 points in 58 AHL games this year. He did score 24 goals once upon a time in juniors, but that looks like an outlier more than anything else at this point.

Canadiens' Darren Dietz: In lineup Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/19/16) Dietz will be in the lineup Saturday, effectively replacing the injured Mark Barberio (concussion-like symptoms), the Montreal Gazette reports.

Dietz was an emergency call up from St. John's of the American Hockey League on Friday after news broke about Barberio being out indefinitely. The 22-year-old from Medicine Hat (Alta.) had a brief two-game stint with the Canadiens earlier in the week, amassing 11 hits in 34 minutes.

    Canadiens' Darren Dietz: Rejoins Canadiens

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/17/16) Dietz was recalled by the Canadiens on Thursday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.

After an earlier two-game stint with the Canadiens resulted in him picking up four penalty minutes, a shot on goal, 11 hits and two blocked shots, he will get another opportunity with the club due to multiple ailments among some of the defensemen. He did see 21:00 of ice time in his second contest with the club, and could see a decent amount of ice time should he draw in again Saturday, but Dietz's game doesn't really lend itself to fantasy relevance.

Canadiens' Darren Dietz: Returned to AHL Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/16/16) Dietz was sent back down to AHL St. John's on Wednesday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.

Dietz drew in for two games while P.K. Subban recovered from a neck injury. In Tuesday night's game, he logged 21:00 of ice time while picking up four penalty minutes and seven hits, not a bad haul for his second NHL game. Dietz will be a key piece of the Habs' blue line down the road, but for now, it's more important that he keep playing as opposed to sitting in the press box with the NHL club.
