  • Capitals' Brad Malone: Inks two-way deal with Washington

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/2/16) Malone signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Capitals on Saturday.

Malone appeared in 57 games with the Hurricanes last season, notching just six points (two goals, four assists) with an ugly minus-11 rating over that span. The 27-year-old forward will get an opportunity to compete for an bottom-six role with the Capitals in September's training camp, but may ultimately begin the 2016-17 campaign in the minors if he fails to impress.

Hurricanes' Brad Malone: Clears waivers, could play Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/26/16) Despite clearing waivers Friday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports that Malone could be in the lineup with the parent club Friday evening, depending on the availability of Andrej Nestrasil (lower body) and Jay McClement (upper body).

What a whirlwind for Malone, though constant roster shuffling is to be expected since the trade deadline is looming. If Malone draws into the lineup Friday, it would be his first taste of game action in over a month as he's been a healthy scratch in 12 consecutive games.

Hurricanes' Brad Malone: Waived by Carolina

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/25/16) Malone was placed on waivers by the Hurricanes on Thursday.

After being a healthy scratch for Carolina's last 11 contests, Malone was waived by the team. If he is unclaimed, the 26-year-old will likely be reassigned to AHL Charlotte. The winger never quite lived up to expectations this season after posting career highs in both goals and assists during the 2014-15 campaign.

Hurricanes' Brad Malone: Fourth straight game watching from press box

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/1/16) Malone served as a healthy scratch for the fourth consecutive game Thursday against the Capitals.

The success of recent AHL callup Phil Di Giuseppe (7 points in 13 games) has essentially created a situation where the Canes now have an extra forward on the roster. As a result, coach Bill Peters has had to rotate certain guys in and out of the lineup to make room, and Malone has been unlucky enough to draw the short straw the last few games. He'll probably be back in a fourth-line capacity at some point, but the timing remains uncertain.

Hurricanes' Brad Malone: Rare goal in loss to Devils

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/4/15) Malone accounted for his team's only goal in Thursday's 5-1 blowout loss to the Devils. He also recorded five PIM, four hits and a blocked shot in just 8:06 of ice time.

Not a bad stat line for the career fourth-liner, who now has just five points in 17 games this season. His fantasy value remains confined to ultra-deep leagues.

Malone scored his seventh goal of the season in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets.Just two games after being a healthy scratch, Malone responded by notching the game-winning goal in Sunday's contest. The 25-year-old has a career-high point total, but with just 13 points he won't be helping out in the majority of fantasy leagues.
