  • Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Will see ice time Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/23/17) Murphy, who's chronically been benched this season, will tag back into the lineup Friday for a home game against the Senators, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.

The term "healthy scratch" is a nasty one when applied to fantasy hockey, and Murphy has done very little to inspire confidence in owners shopping for a defenseman. He's drawn into 11 of 56 games in 2016-17, with a pair of assists representing his meager point total on the season. With the Hurricanes highly unlikely to make the playoffs, there's not much risk in giving Murphy another chance -- after all, he was a first-round pick (12th overall) in the 2011 draft.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Continues to serve as healthy scratch

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/20/17) Murphy was a healthy scratch for the ninth straight game Sunday against the Maple Leafs.

With just 11 games under his belt, Murphy has had a tough time finding a regular spot in the lineup this season. He tends to be utilized more as an injury replacement, and rarely sees more than 14-15 minutes a game when he does suit up. Needless to say, Murphy's fantasy value is essentially zero at the present time.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Plays in first game following recent recall

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/29/16) Murphy registered his second assist of the season in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh.

Subbing for an injured Justin Faulk (lower-body), Murphy was finally able to crack the lineup after being recalled from the minors earlier in December. He saw ice time of 18:36 and skated mainly on the Canes' third defensive pairing with Ron Hainsey. With Faulk considered week-to-week, look for Murphy to continue to play a similar role for the foreseeable future.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Recalled from conditioning stint

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/5/16) Murphy was recalled from AHL Charlotte on Monday after playing seven games with the Checkers.

Murphy has never racked up points at the top level, notching just 10 points over 35 games with the Hurricanes last season. While he does own an assist in four contests this season, he's also posted a mineus-6 rating over that span and doesn't figure to have much fantasy upside.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Sent to AHL on conditioning stint

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/21/16) Murphy has been sent to AHL Charlotte for a conditioning stint Monday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.

Murphy has served as a healthy scratch each of the last four games, so the team sent him down to get in some game action. The blueliner should be recalled again in the near future, but it's unlikely it will result in additional ice time unless another defenseman suffers an injury.
