  • CuJo to retire on Tuesday
(1/9/10) Hockey Night in Canada reports that veteran G Curtis Joseph will officially announce retirement on Tuesday.
CuJo sets dubious record in last start
(4/9/09) Ryan Miller and the Buffalo Sabres kept their slim playoff hopes alive -- and handed Toronto's Curtis Joseph a dubious NHL record. Miller made 32 saves, and Thomas Vanek and Paul Gaustad scored in a 26-span of the third period in the Sabres' 3-1 victory over the Maple Leafs on Wednesday night, the NHL-record tying 452nd loss of Joseph's career. He made 26 saves against the Sabres, but couldn't hold a 1-0 lead. Vanek broke a 1-1 tie at 8:09 of the third period, and Gaustad scored 26 seconds later. Vanek deked Joseph one way and pulled the puck the other way to slip it into an open side of net, and Gaustad shoved a rebound behind the fallen Joseph. "I felt I had good control and I saw the puck for the most part," Joseph said. "I was looking around. I've done that all year-- practice and games. I've been soaking it all in and just enjoying it."
    CuJo very ineffective in relief
(4/3/09) Maple Leafs G Martin Gerber returned from his three-game suspension Friday against the Flyers, but it wasn't pretty in a 8-5 loss. The Flyers scored three times in a span of 4:38 to take a 3-0 lead in the first. Randy Jones got the first one on a backhander after the rebound from Daniel Briere's shot kicked right to him inside the left circle. Briere helped set up the next goal by speeding up ice and sending a perfect crossing pass to the streaking Arron Asham, who quickly pushed the puck to Claude Giroux. The rookie forward deked Gerber with a nifty fake and scored his eighth goal. Simon Gagne scored his 32nd goal on a power play, firing a slap shot from the slot through a screen. That was it for Gerber. He was replaced by Curtis Joseph after allowing three goals on nine shots. Joseph wasn't much better. He gave up two goals on five shots and returned to the bench for the start of the second period. Gerber finished the game and made 24 saves while allowing six goals.
    Joseph wins one vs. Flyers
(4/1/09) Toronto G Curtis Joseph stopped 32 shots on Wednesday night in a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Joseph allowed just two goals in the game to improve his season record to 5-8-1.

(3/28/09) Toronto G Justin Pogge made 14 saves and allowed six goals before getting pulled 12:44 into the second period after David Krejci scored a goal. He went on to take the loss as the final score was 7-5. Curtis Joseph came in after Pogge and allowed one more goal and made 10 saves.
