  • Avs' Forsberg Cuts Comeback Attempt Short, Retires After Two Games: As previously reported, Forsberg announced his retirement from professional hockey at a news conference Monday.

    Fantasy Analysis
Forsberg reportedly reached the decision over lunch with his fiancee Sunday, and from there drove straight to Avs GM Greg Sherman's house to tell him the bad news. "It was not an easy decision," Forsberg said. "But I finally decided, with my fiancee, Nicole, that I would not put my health at risk anymore." The cause for Foppa's latest - and no doubt final - decision to retire is said to be ongoing problems with his right foot. Despite feeling well enough to return to the Avs last Sunday, Forsberg felt the familiar discomfort in his right skate during his final game, Saturday at Nashville. The Avs have announced that a special night will be held for Forsberg at the Pepsi Center in Denver, when his No. 21 will be retired. Forsberg retires as the NHL's fourth all-time leader in assists per game (0.90) and 10th in points per game (1.25). He won two Stanley Cups with the Avalanche, in 1996 and 2001, and won two Olympic gold medals for his native Sweden. He won the NHL's Hart Trophy in 2003 as MVP.
