Capitals move on without Kozlov: The Capitals filled the void created by Viktor Kozlov's departure for Russia, by signing former Philadelphia Flyers forward Mike Knuble to a two-year deal worth $5.6 million Wednesday. He can take Kozlov's spot on the wing alongside star forward Alex Ovechkin and center Nicklas Backstrom.

Fantasy Analysis

Kozlov totaled 13 goals and 41 points in 67 games for the Capitals last season. He missed several games with a nagging groin injury. The 1993 first-round pick had 198 goals and 537 points in 897 career NHL games. His presence will be missed in Washington and in Fantasy. Ignore him on Draft Day 2009. He might return to the NHL at some point in the future, but is not worth holding onto in Fantasy.

RW Viktor Kozlov again came through in a big way. With LW Alex Ovechkin often bottled up through most of the night, Kozlov scored twice. His first came on a brutal wrist shot and his second was on a play that came from sheer hustle, when Kozlov chased down a loose puck in the left corner, saw that G Marc-Andre Fleury got tangled up with one of his defensemen, and fired a bullet into the open net from a sharp angle. Kozlov seems to have a knack for coming through when the Caps need him. 51/2/2009
