Sundin once again pondering future: The Sports Xchange reports Mats Sundin came with a lot of fanfare and hype -- not to mention a $5.625-million price tag for just half a season -- when the big Swedish center ended a nine-month hiatus spent pondering retirement and decided to sign with the Canucks in mid-December. He failed to live up to most of it, struggling through the regular season to find both his legs and his hands. He finished with 28 points in 41 games, respectable numbers given the circumstances, but hardly the point-a-game average over 18 NHL seasons in a first-ballot Hall of Fame career.

Fantasy Analysis
Part of Sundin's struggles had to do with his second-line role after years of being the No. 1 center in Toronto. However, the long-time Maple Leafs captain was on the ice for at least half of most power plays, and in the playoffs did start to show signs of the form that was advertised as one of the league's hottest free agent commodities last summer. That appears to be enough for the Canucks to have interest in bringing him back, even if his 38-year-old legs were often costly getting back in the defensive end. Sundin didn't sound like he would be rushed into a decision. "It's nothing I regretted," Sundin said of waiting until mid-season to sign. "I'm definitely going to take my time to make a good decision this summer." Where Sundin signs will heavily dictate his Fantasy value. But if he is going to hold out again, then he is going to be a risky pick Draft Day. Continue to track his offseason progress.
