Demitra out four months post-surgery: Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said Thursday that top-six forward Pavol Demitra will have shoulder surgery and be out four months. He was injured in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals against Chicago. Demitra had 20 goals and 53 points in 69 regular-season games.

Demitra missed the final four games of the Western Conference semifinals with the shoulder injury and it has proven to be worse than first expected. He is now questionable for the start of the 2009-10 season. The injury capped what was a rather disappointing end to a frustrating first season with the Canucks. Demitra didn't elevate to the 30-goal scorer Vancouver had hoped he would become when they inked him in the offseason. Demitra will be at best an injury-risk No. 4 Fantasy forward Draft Day 2009.

C/LW Pavol Demitra didn't finish the season after a serious shoulder injury in the playoffs, and may still be recovering when the next season starts. But that doesn't mean he won't play a serious role for the Canucks this summer. Demitra is a good friend with former teammate and fellow Slovak Marian Gaborik, who will be one of the biggest free agents available on this summer's open market, and according to one report recently purchased a house in Vancouver. Similar reports surfaced about Demitra, a former client of new Canucks general manager Mike Gillis during his player agent days, checking out Vancouver before signing with the Canucks last summer. Gaborik, a dynamic offensive threat who often misses time with groin problems, has also worked with renowned Vancouver-based physiotherapists Alex McKechnie and Rick Celebrini, who treat a long list of NBA and NHL stars for sports hernia and abdomen injuries. 62/9/2009
