Rolston misses out on successful season: The Sports Xchange reports Devils C Brian Rolston had a disappointing first season in new Jersey. Rolston, who played all three forward positions in 2008-09, suffered a high ankle sprain in the fourth game of the season, missed 18 games and never really got rolling after the fact. He signed a four-year, $20 million contract and had 15 goals and 32 points, including two goals in the last 21 games (counting playoffs). He did have what looked like the series-winning goal against Carolina before late disaster struck.

Fantasy Analysis

Once Rolston was ready to return to action in early December, the Devils already had a solid top-six rotation, so he spent most of the season among the lower lines. Brent Sutter has resigned as head coach, so Rolston gets to start over fresh in 2009-10. It could help if Jacques Lemaire returns to New Jersey since Rolston has had some of the best seasons of his career playing under Lemaire in Minnesota and with the Devils. Rolston is a perfect fit for his defensive-style of play. Still, we have to wait and see. Rolston, who had scored 30-plus goals in three straight seasons before '08-09, has dropped down to being a low-end Fantasy forward Draft Day.

C Brian Rolston, asked by the New York Post about the departure of Brent Sutter, said, "My reaction is ???Who will our next coach be?' Sutter was very similar to Mike Keenan, the way he ran the team. My year was certainly a disappointment to me. When I got back [from an ankle sprain], I didn't feel I got a fair shake. But I thought Brent did a good job." 61/2/2009
