  • Lightning's Andrei Vasilevskiy: Inks three-year extension with Bolts

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/1/16) Vasilevskiy has agreed to a three-year, $10.5 million contract extension with the Lightning, reports Dan Rosen of the NHL Network.

Ben Bishop is inked for one more year at $5.95 million, but the Bolts are locking up a lot of cap space with this extension, as well as Victor Hedman's and the re-signing of Steven Stamkos. This may signal a trade of Bishop. It's a great move for the Bolts.

Lightning's Andrei Vasilevskiy: Valiant effort with 37 saves ends in Game 7 loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/26/16) Vasilevskiy turned away 37 of 39 shots during Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Penguins in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Coming into the series against the Penguins, Vasilevskiy was on the outside looking in, firmly seated in the front row as the backup netminder. With Ben Bishop (leg) going down in Game 1, the 21-year-old was called upon to help carry the Bolts to their second straight Stanley Cup Finals, but unfortunately fell just short. It was an admirable run for the 2012 first-round pick, who finishes the series with a 2.71 GAA and .924 save percentage.

Lightning's Andrei Vasilevskiy: Gets nod for deciding match Thursday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/26/16) Vasilevskiy will command the crease Thursday night for Game 7 against the Penguins in the conference finals, NHL.com's Bryan Burns reports.

Vasilevskiy has a chance to wind up in the Stanley Cup Finals with the Bolts for the second straight year. Starting goalie Ben Bishop (leg) still isn't ready to return, so Vassy will need to play with the same level of composure he had in Game 1, when he replaced an injured Bishop early in the contest and slapped away 25 of 26 shots for the victory. He was spotty in the five games that followed, as the Pens scored on him 17 times. Matt Murray, the Pens' winner in Game 6, is expected to be his counterpart once again Thursday. Considering the combined age of the two tenders is just 43, there's a lack of historical data available for us to confidently predict who will come out on top in this one. However, Vasilevskiy seems to be the slight underdog given that the Penguins have run the better offense this postseason.

Lightning's Andrei Vasilevskiy: Four pass netminder in Game 6 loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/24/16) Vasilevskiy saved 29 of 33 shots during Tuesday's 5-2 loss to Pittsburgh in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Vasilevskiy gave up three-plus goals for the fifth straight game, although he was able to win two of those. However, the 21-year-old was unable to get offensive support until late Tuesday, sealing Tampa Bay's date with Pittsburgh in Game 7 on Thursday. Even with a .920 save percentage for the series, it's fair to wonder if Ben Bishop will take over the crease if healthy.

Lightning's Andrei Vasilevskiy: Protecting net for Game 6

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/24/16) Vasilevskiy will defend the crease against the Penguins in Tuesday's Game 6, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Despite being up 3-2 in the series, Vasilevskiy has relied on his teammate to get the wins, as he has logged a 2.93 GAA against Pittsburgh, including four consecutive outings in which he allowed three or more pucks to find the back of the net. It should be noted that the 21-year-old has been peppered with shots, a total of 187 in five contests, but with the Pens' backs against the wall, he will need to be on top of his game to avoid a Game 7 back in the Burg.

March 31, 2015: Lightning Could Start Vasilevskiy On Tuesday
Joe Smith of The Tampa Bay Times expects Vasilevskiy to draw the start Tuesday against the Maple Leafs. With Ben Bishop having earned the win Monday against Montreal, it looks like Vasilevskiy is in line to get a shot at Toronto on Tuesday. The Leafs snapped a seven-game slide with Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over Ottawa.
March 26, 2015: Tampa's Vasilevskiy Appears In Relief
Vasilevskiy replaced starter Ben Bishop about seven minutes into the second period of Thursday's game. He stopped all eight shots he faced.Bishop had an off game; nothing more, nothing less. Vasilevskiy has had a solid March, delivering a 3-1 record in four starts. The net is still Bishop's, though, so don't too excited (unless you're in a keeper league and playing for next year).
March 24, 2015: Vasilevskiy, Lightning Outlast Panthers
Vasilevskiy stopped 33 of 36 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 victory over Florida.Making his first start in 10 days, the Russian rookie showed no rust while outplaying Roberto Luongo. He doesn't get to start over Ben Bishop very often, obviously, but makes for a terrific spot start when he does get the call.
March 24, 2015: Lightning Turn To Vasilevskiy On Tuesday
Vasilevskiy is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Panthers, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.Vasilevskiy, who sports a 6-4-1 record to go along with a 2.35 GAA and .918 save percentage overall, is thus in line to make his first appearance since March 14, with the Lightning in the midst of a three-game win streak.
