DiPietro gets some backup help: Free agent goalie Dwayne Roloson has signed a contract with the New York Islanders. Newsday reports it is a two-year deal worth $5 million. The veteran netminder appeared in 63 games for Edmonton in 2008-09, posting a 28-24-9 record, 2.77 GAA and .915 save percentage. Roloson will serve as Rick DiPietro's backup in 2009-10.

It's interesting Roloson heads to New York since Islanders coach Scott Gordon has already said DiPietro is the team's starting goalie as long as he is healthy. DiPietro played in all but four games in '08-09 due to knee issues. But by bringing in Roloson, it could help keep DiPietro fresh in net and off injured reserve. DiPietro has the ability to be a No. 1 Fantasy goalie, but since there are major injury concerns and the Islanders aren't yet ready to contend, consider him a No. 2 Fantasy goalie Draft Day.

G Rick DiPietro, who appeared in just five games and was shut down in January due to two knee surgeries, expects to be ready to resume his career in time for the start of training camp. Coach Scott Gordon said he recently spoke with DiPietro and said the franchise goalie is "upbeat" and that he "fully expects to be on the ice in mid-summer." 41/2/2009
