Corvo scores, injured vs. Capitals: Carolina defenseman Joe Corvo was injured in the first period Monday against the Capitals after scoring the Hurricanes' first goal. Corvo scored at 4:35 of the first, but was cut on the leg in a collision with the Capitals' Karl Alzner less than a minute later and taken to the hospital for assessment. "He's going to be OK," Carolina coach Paul Maurice said of Corvo. "The extent of his injury, we won't know until a doctor gets in there and looks at it and finds out exactly how deep it is and what it caught. He was in some pain on the ice, and he's fine now."

Lucky for Corvo that the Hurricanes don't play again until Saturday. Unfortunately, he still could be out a bit longer if the doctors find some serious damage. Corvo is up to 12 points in 27 games. But he is still a minus-10. He is one of the Hurricanes' top bluliners and contributes at both ends of the ice. But Corvo is more of a No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy defenseman when healthy.
