Holmqvist returns home to Sweden: Free agent goalie Johan Holmqvist decided to return home to his native Sweden after failing to get an substantial offer to remain in the NHL. Holmqvist has signed a contract with Frolunda HC of the Swedish Elitserien after spending the last two seasons in the NHL.

Holmqvist began his hockey career in the SEL with Brynas IF in 1996-97. He returned to play for them in 2004-05 during the NHL lockout before signing the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2006-07. He split last season with the Lightning and Stars. Holmqvist was 48-31-9 in 96 games the last two seasons. He had some Fantasy value as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 goalie, but wasn't a spectacular option. Now that he is back in Sweden, ignore Holmqvist for the 2008-09 season.
