  • Holmqvist returns home to Sweden

(8/3/08) Free agent goalie Johan Holmqvist decided to return home to his native Sweden after failing to get an substantial offer to remain in the NHL. Holmqvist has signed a contract with Frolunda HC of the Swedish Elitserien after spending the last two seasons in the NHL.

    Holmqvist can't contain excitement

(3/16/08) Johan Holmqvist struggled in his first start for the Stars Saturday against the Canucks since he was acquired along with Brad Richards in a five-player trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Feb. 26. Holmqvist sat out seven games with the Stars as the backup to No. 1 goalie Marty Turco, but gave up three goals on 12 shots to the Canucks before he was pulled to start the second period. "Maybe I was a little too excited," Holmqvist said. "But no excuses. I'm disappointed. It was a big night for me, and I let the team down." Turco allowed just one goal on 18 shots the rest of the game and took the loss as Vancouver won 4-3.

    J. Holmqvist will get occasional start

(2/28/08) The Dallas Star-Telegram reports that Stars coach Dave Tippett will get newly-acquired backup goaltender Johan Holmqvist in the rotation at some point. "We'll just continue to take it day-by-day," said Tippett. "(Marty Turco) will get the bulk of the work, but we have to get Johan in there and see what he can do."

    Johan Holmqvist traded to Dallas

(2/26/08) The NHL Network reports that Lightning G Johan Holmqvist has been traded to the Dallas Stars along with C Brad Richards for G Mike Smith, Jussi Jokinen and Jeff Halpern.

Holmqvist stops first 31 shots, still losses

(2/20/08) Johan Holmqvist had a strong game against the Sabres on Wednesday, but three goals in the third period and one in overtime which completed a natural hat trick by Tomas Vanek spoiled Holmqvist's effort. Holmqvist stopped 42 shots, including the first 31 he faced.
