The New York Rangers are placing Derek Stepan on long-term injured reserve and likely will move Martin St. Louis to center to fill the gap according to head coach Alain Vigneault.
|October 5, 2014: Rangers Place Lombardi On Waivers|
The Rangers waived Lombardi on Sunday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.Lombardi spent last season in the Swiss-A league where he scored 20 goals and 30 assists in 46 games. If he is not claimed he will report to AHL Hartford. The Rangers are already thin at center so if there are anymore injuries at the position, Lombardi could see some time with New York. Otherwise, he won't have a big fantasy impact this year.

Lombardi (groin) took part in Thursday's practice, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.Lombardi has been held out since injuring his groin Sunday, but it appears he is feeling good enough to return to practice, and the setback should not prevent him from being ready for Opening Night.
