Legace in play for Hurricanes?: The Raleigh News and Observer reports that minor league goalie Manny Legace could be an option for the Hurricanes with starter Cam Ward expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a leg injury. Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford has not made a decision yet on the team's next move, but the 36-year-old Legace has won 177 NHL games and is currently playing for Chicago of the AHL.

Fantasy Analysis

Legace is 2-2-1 with a 3.21 GAA and .898 save percentage in six games with Chicago. While he does have NHL experience, his game has really fallen off since last season. If Legace is signed by Carolina, he probably won't fill in full-time and will be just a stopgap Fantasy option. Don't make any roster moves with Legace until further notice.

G Manny Legace, an unrestricted free agent, has been invited to the team's training camp on a tryout basis. The addition of Legace comes after Thrashers general manager Don Waddell had signed Drew MacIntyre as a free agent this summer. While MacIntyre led the American Hockey League with 34 wins last season and might soon earn a regular job in the NHL, Legace has more experience, including winning a Stanley Cup title with Detroit in 2002. Legace also commands a much bigger paycheck, which could be the biggest deciding factor if Atlanta wants to keep him around. If Legace were to make the squad, it could cause a ripple effect throughout the team's goaltending ranks, possibly marking the end of Johan Hedberg's stay with the team or lead to a trade of either Ondrej Pavelec or Kari Lehtonen. 91/0/2009
