  • Predators' Marek Mazanec: Reassigned to minors

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/17/17) Mazanec was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee on Friday, Adam Vingan of The Tennessean reports.

The Predators utilized their bye week by having young backup Juuse Saros get some reps with the minor league squad, so now that the bye is over, he and Mazanec will switch places once again. With the Predators seemingly putting all of their faith in Saros and Pekka Rinne, there isn't likely to be room for Mazanec on the roster unless one of the two sustains an injury.

Predators' Marek Mazanec: Called up to Nashville

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/13/17) Mazanec was promoted from AHL MIlwaukee on Monday.

Mazanec went into the 2016-17 season on the projected backup to Pikka Renne, but the team has been switching between the 25-year-old and fellow prospect Juuse Saros in recent weeks. For now, the role will belong to Mazanec who has just four NHL appearances this year in which he posted a disappointing .839 save percentage. The Czech has performed significantly better with the Admirals where he is 13-11-2 with three shutouts and a 2.68 GAA and will look to permanently cement himself in the Music City.

Predators' Marek Mazanec: Headed back to minors

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/6/17) Mazanec was returned to AHL Milwaukee on Monday, Adam Vingan of The Tenneseean reports.

Mazanec was essential a brief recall to serve in a backup role for Pekka Rinne on Saturday. The move allowed Juuse Saros to see some game action with the team's AHL affiliate in anticipation of a slightly expanded role during the second half of the season. As of now, Mazanec appears the third in line to seeing consistent playing time between the pipes, but would be the likely candidate for recall should either of the Predators' netminders suffer an injury.

Predators' Marek Mazanec: Brought up from minors

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/4/17) Mazanec was called up from AHL Milwaukee on Saturday.

Once again, Mazanec is trading places with Juuse Saros on Nashville's organizational depth chart. If you look at how Predators coach Peter Laviolette manages his goalies, you'll notice that he's kept veteran starter Pekka Rinne from appearing in more than three consecutive games since the calendar flipped to 2017. This means a Mazanec sighting could be imminent, but then again, the bench boss rarely tips his hand as to who will be starting on a given night.

Predators' Marek Mazanec: Sent back to AHL Milwaukee

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/14/16) Mazanec was returned to AHL MIlwaukee on Wednesday.

In what has become a trend this season, Mazanec trades places with fellow prospect Juuse Saros. Nashville's No. 1 netminder, Pekka Rinne, has two years left on his contract before he'll become an unrestricted free agent, so the team is wisely grooming both of these young goalies to see who's going to stick over the long haul. Mazanec takes up a great deal of real estate between the pipes at 6-foot-4, though he's gone 8-13-4 with a 2.98 GAA in 31 NHL games, suggesting that he must iron out the kinks before garnering a substantial role at hockey's highest level.

January 31, 2015: Preds' Mazanec Gives Up Two Goals In Loss
Mazanec gave up two goals on 27 shots in Friday's loss to Colorado. It was a good effort from Mazanec, who got no offensive support in the shutout loss. It was the first start of the season for the 23-year-old, who had been giving way to Carter Hutton in Pekka Rinne's (knee) absence. Considering Hutton has given up seven goals in his last two starts, Mazanec could be worth a temporary pick-up until Rinne returns.
January 30, 2015: Preds' Mazanec To Start Friday
Mazanec will be in net for Friday's game against the Avalanche, Predators radio announcer Willy Daunic reports.Friday's contest will serve as the 23-year-old goaltender's NHL debut. However, it won't be the first NHL game action Mazanec's seen, as he turned in a solid performance in relief of Carter Hutton on Jan. 17 against the Red Wings. Mazanec is 13-9-0 with a 2.41 GAA and a .909 save percentage through 25 games with AHL Milwaukee this season.
