  • Coyotes' Mike Smith: Makes 42 saves in loss during season finale

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/8/17) Smith stopped 42 of 45 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Wild on Saturday.

This was pretty much a perfect microcosm of the season for the Coyotes netminder. Smith saw a ton of shots, made a lot of saves, but Arizona still yielded three goals in the loss, two of which came on the power play. The Arizona penalty kill is ranked 25th in the NHL, so that's been killing Smith's value all season. He made 37 saves on 38 shots at even strength Saturday. Smith ends the season with a respectable .914 save percentage but also a 2.92 GAA. As good as he was at times behind a weak team, Smith was a liability in every statistic but save percentage this season.

Coyotes' Mike Smith: Gets starting nod Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/6/17) Smith will start the Coyotes' final game of the season against Minnesota on Saturday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.

It has been a disappointing year for Smith, who's posted a 19-25-9 record and a 2.92 GAA. Not all the responsibility for the Yotes' tough season belongs to the netminder -- he was Arizona's representative to the All-Star Game, after all -- but unless the team gets drastically better in the offseason, the 35-year-old will remain a low-end fantasy option.

Coyotes' Mike Smith: Gives up three goals in OT loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/5/17) Smith allowed three goals on 31 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss against the Stars.

Smith has allowed three or more goals in five of his past six appearances and 13 of his past 18 outings. The veteran is likely to split the remaining two regular-season starts with Louis Domingue. Whomever faces the Canucks on Thursday might be a nice sleeper in DFS play, but the start against the Wild on Saturday night should be avoided.

Coyotes' Mike Smith: Confirmed for Tuesday start

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/4/17) As expected, Smith will be the starting goalie for Tuesday night's road matchup with the Stars.

Smith will have to try to get the win without Radim Vrbata (lower body) supporting him on the offensive end of the ice. He will be going for his second consecutive victory and 20th of the year, but it's been a tough season overall for the veteran, who owns an inflated 2.92 GAA.

Coyotes' Mike Smith: Slated for start Tuesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/4/17) Smith was the first goalie off the ice at Tuesday's practice, making him the likely starter for Tuesday night's game in Dallas, Sean Shapiro of NHL.com reports.

Sunday's game aside, Smith has not been particularly great on the road this season, posting a 7-13-3 record to go with a .911 save percentage and 3.06 GAA. It'll be difficult to trust the 35-year-old down the stretch, especially against a Dallas team that's averaging 3.16 goals per game at home and has defeated Smith once already this season.

  • April 12, 2015: Coyotes' Smith Stops 36 Shots In Season Finale
Smith made 36 save on 38 shots in Saturday's loss to the Ducks.A great final outing for Smith, who finishes the season 14-42-5 with a .904 save percentage and 3.16 GAA. His save percentage improved over the season, but unfortunately with the Coyotes losing so often, Smith wasn't of much fantasy value. With some promising young talent in the Arizona organization, Smith is likely to see his win total increase significantly in the coming years.
