Clemmensen leaves Devils for Panthers: The Bergen County Record reports free agent goalie Scott Clemmensen has left the New Jersey Devils to sign a three-year contract (worth $3.6 million) with the Florida Panthers. Clemmensen is expected to serve as a backup goalie to Tomas Vokoun after former backup Craig Anderson signed a contract with the Avalanche Wednesday.

Fantasy Analysis

The move makes sense for the 31-year-old goalie. He will have a better chance for PT in Florida than he would have had as a backup to Martin Brodeur. Clemmensen was outstanding for New Jersey in 2008-09 when Brodeur was out with an elbow injury. He posted a 25-13-1 record with a 2.39 GAA, .917 save percentage and two shutouts in 40 games. Consider Clemmensen a No. 3 Fantasy goalie and handcuff option for Vokoun owners Draft Day. The Panthers TG is still more of a high-end No. 2 Fantasy option.

G Scott Clemmensen left New Jersey to sign a three-year deal with the Panthers on July 1. Clemmensen played very well in 2008-09 as he stepped in when Martin Brodeur was injured. Acting general manager Randy Sexton says "we fully expect a real competitive situation for that starting position." 73//2009
