  • Islanders' Johnny Boychuk: Returning to action Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/22/17) Boychuck (upper body) will be back on the blue line for Sunday's game against the Flyers.

Boychuk returns to action after missing three of the last four contests and he is projected to return to the second defensive pairing alongside Thomas Hickey. Although he managed a three-game point streak at the beginning of January, Boychuk isn't exactly a prolific scorer and is more of a maven for defensive stats like hits and blocked shots.

Islanders' Johnny Boychuk: Remains out Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/21/17) Boychuk (upper body) will not play Saturday against the visiting Kings.

While the cerebral competitor is about to miss his second straight game, he hasn't been placed on IR, which leaves at least a teaspoon's worth of optimism that Boychuk could be ready for Sunday's home clash with the Flyers. Scott Mayfield will hold down the fort in the meantime.

Islanders' Johnny Boychuk: All but ruled out Thursday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/19/17) Boychuck (upper body) is labeled day-to-day, Shannon Hogan of MSG Networks reports. This effectively rules him out for Thursday's home game versus the Stars.

This latest report adds that Scott Mayfield will draw into the upcoming contest, presumably in place of Boychuk, who continues to be hampered by the upper-body ailment that had kept him from playing last Saturday; he did log 20:27 of ice time in the latest contest, but was held off the scoresheet and wasn't his normal aggressive self -- he logged only one hit and a blocked shot when we're accustomed to seeing multipliers from the brutish Canadian.

Islanders' Johnny Boychuk: Returns to action Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/16/17) Boychuk (upper body) will be back in the starting lineup for Monday's game in Boston, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

The veteran defender only missed one game due to the injury, so he likely will return at full speed. He hasn't been having a particularly productive season, with 14 points in 39 games. That said, with 19:54 minutes per game, and 1:39 power play minutes per game, he gets played enough to be more productive than he currently is.

Islanders' Johnny Boychuk: Out Saturday with upper-body issue

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/14/17) Boychuk will not play in Saturday's road matchup with the Hurricanes due to an upper-body injury, Arthur Staple of NewsdaySports reports.

The earliest reports are that Boychuk is merely day-to-day, but fantasy owners keeping tabs on his status will want to check back prior the Islanders' next game against the Bruins on Jan. 16 for an official announcement of his availability. The 32-year-old blueliner had picked up three points (1G, 2A) in five games prior to sustaining his ailment.
