Ward out 'fairly long time': The Raleigh News and Observer reports Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward will spend another day in a Columbus, Ohio, hospital after sustaining a left leg laceration in the first period of a 3-2 loss to the Blue Jackets on Saturday. "We'll have to see how it goes," Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said Sunday of Ward's injury and recovery time. "It appears it will be a fairly long period of time." Several reports has Ward out a minimum of 3-4 weeks. Rutherford said the team is looking at possible options, which include a trade, signing an available goaltender or calling up Justin Peters from Albany (AHL). Michael Leighton is currently the team's starter. "We're talking over the options. We don't have an answer right now," he said.

Fantasy Analysis
This injury just adds further insult to an already tough start for Carolina and Ward. It's also a tough loss for Fantasy owners, who lose a potential No. 1 Fantasy goalie in Ward. It doesn't sound as he will be back in the near future, so take him out of Fantasy lineups ASAP. You could replace him with Leighton, but it doesn't sound as though the Hurricanes have a lot of confidence in their backup goalie. Peters is a nice prospect, but not worth owning in Fantasy just yet. Ward owners might consider adding Ondrej Pavelec (owned 56 percent), Jonas Gustavsson (55 percent), Mike Smith (52 percent), Jaroslav Halak (50 percent) or Dan Ellis (30 percent).
