  • Blues' Scottie Upshall: Pens contract with St. Louis

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/22/16) Upshall (thumb) agreed to terms on a new one-year deal with the Blues on Wednesday.

Upshall originally signed with St. Louis on a professional tryout two years ago, but has shown the organization enough that they are willing to keep him around on a year-to-year basis. The 32-year-old saw action in 70 games during the 2015-16 campaign in which he tallied 14 points and 44 PIM. A bruising winger who likes to dish out hits, he had 92 this season, Upshall should be fully recovered by from his thumb injury in time for training camp.

Blues' Scottie Upshall: Limited by thumb injury in playoffs

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/28/16) Upshall played with a broken and dislocated thumb for the last two series of the playoffs, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Upshall explained that he initially sustained the ailment while facing the Blackhawks in Game 7 of the conference quarterfinals. The fourth-line forward wound up missing Games 3-5 of the conference finals against the Sharks but returned for the deciding match on May 25 and doled out five hits. Upshall added that the injury affected his shot most of all. "I was starting to become a passer," he said. "It was my top hand, so it restricted me a bit. Obviously I didn't feel my best puck handling but I got through it. It didn't get any worse, which is good." While it's nice to put some closure on Upshall's postseason injury, fantasy owners probably didn't miss a beat since his offensive upside was severely limited in the first place.

Blues' Scottie Upshall: Back in action Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/25/16) Upshall will return to the Blues' lineup for Wednesday's Game 6 against the Sharks, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.

The Blues will be happy to have Upshall back in the lineup for Wednesday's pivotal Game 6, but his return to action shouldn't have any impact on fantasy owners' lineups. The 32-year-old winger has only tallied three points over 16 playoff games this postseason, severely limiting his value in daily contests and playoff pools. Upshall is expected to replace Magnus Paajarvi in St. Louis' lineup Wednesday, skating alongside Kyle Brodziak and Dmitrij Jaskin on the Blues' fourth line.

Blues' Scottie Upshall: Out of lineup Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/23/16) Upshall (upper body) told reporters he will not be suiting up for Game 5 on Monday against San Jose, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Despite coach Ken Hitchcock saying lineup decisions would wait until after warm-ups, Upshall ruled himself out. Even when healthy, the winger has seen limited action as he is averaging a meager 8:54 of ice time per game in the postseason. Fantasy owners should be more concerned about the whether or not teammates David Backes (undisclosed) and Robby Fabbri (undisclosed) are available than Upshall given his limited value.

Blues' Scottie Upshall: Sitting out Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/21/16) Upshall (upper body) will not be available to play the Sharks in Game 4 on Saturday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.

Blues coach Ken Hitchcock told reporters Saturday that Upshall is "not 100 percent." Even when healthy and playing, Upshall has been restricted to fourth-line duty where it's tough for skaters to produce exciting fantasy numbers. Look for Magnus Paajarvi to remain at the left wing on the fourth line in Game 4.

April 4, 2015: Panthers' Upshall Back In Lineup Saturday
Upshall (hand) will be back in the lineup Saturday against the Lightning, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.Upshall missed the previous two games with the injury. He'll draw back in for Shawn Thornton on Saturday, but that shouldn't really move the needle for his fantasy prospects. With just 15 points this season and a fourth-line role in tow, Upshall offers little upside at this point.
