Panthers bring Taffe in to compete: The Panthers signed free-agent center Jeff Taffe to a two-year contract Monday. "Jeff is a focused, driven and hard working player who we are very pleased to have join our organization," Panthers assistant GM Randy Sexton said. "He posted career best numbers last season while playing for Wilkes-Barre (AHL), but has also shown that he can play in the National Hockey League. We expect him to compete for a position on our team in training camp."

He has 20 goals and 22 assists in 153 NHL games between Phoenix, N.Y. Rangers and Pittsburgh. Taffe appears to be nothing more than organizational depth and has little to no Fantasy appeal.
