  • Sharks' Brent Burns: Ends goal drought with Game 5's opening tally

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/9/16) Burns put a stop to an eight-game postseason goal drought Thursday, scoring the opening tally in Thursday's Game 5 victory over the Penguins. He finished plus-2 with a pair of PIM.

The Sharks came into this game in Pittsburgh desperate to generate positive momentum early on, and Burns provided it with a swoop from behind the net and a brilliant short-side goal against Pittsburgh's Matt Murray. The star blueliner had been silent for three games after a two-assist performance in Game 1, but it's hard to keep him off the board all that long. After all, we're talking about a guy who scored 27 times from the blue line in the regular season and is clipping along at a point-per-game pace in the playoffs.

Sharks' Brent Burns: Assists on both goals in Game 1 loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/30/16) Burns collected a pair of assists Monday in a 3-2 loss to the Penguins in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

The 31-year-old stud blueliner just refuses to quit scoring, as he's now up to 22 points in 19 games this season. Burns is far and away the highest scoring defenseman in the playoffs, and is unbelievably now tied for second in overall scoring with teammate Joe Pavelski, behind (another) teammate in Logan Couture, who has piled up 25 points to pace the league. While we're talking league leaders, No. 88 passed Vladimir Tarasenko and Alex Ovechkin to move into second overall in shots on goal (63) in this one, which also happens to be the exact same total as Pavelski. In short, the Sharks' core has been as prolific as they come since the second season got underway back in April, which has given them a real shot at bringing the Bay Area their first ever Stanley Cup

Sharks' Brent Burns: Leads Sharks with plus-4 rating as they advance

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/26/16) Burns finished with an assist and a team-high plus-4 rating in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Blues.

Burns finished with just two assists in Games 3 through 6, but was nonetheless instrumental to the Sharks' 3-1 record thanks a plus-5 rating due to strong two-way play. The offensive-minded blueliner finished the regular season with a minus-5 mark despite his high scoring rate, but he has put up a plus-8 showing when it matters most in the playoffs.

Sharks' Brent Burns: Dominates power play with two goals

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/17/16) Burns potted two power-play goals on two shots during Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Blues in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.

In a pivotal game for San Jose before heading to home ice, Burns delivered on the man advantage. The Norris Trophy finalist earned his second multi-goal outing in the postseason and now has nine power-play points during that span. The 31-year-old sits at 11 career playoff tallies, tying Dan Boyle for the most by a Sharks defenseman in team history. Expect Burns to continue his stellar postseason run (18 total points).

Sharks' Brent Burns: Two assists not enough Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/9/16) Burns dished out a pair of assists in Monday's Game 6 loss to the Predators.

The second helper came on the power play to give the Sharks the lead in the final 10 minutes, but they were unable to hold on as the Predators eventually won in overtime to force a Game 7. Burns has done his part this series though, collecting seven points (two goals, five assists) to give him 15 through 11 playoff games.

April 1, 2015: Predators D Roman Josi is unsung hero of special season in Nashville
Roman Josi is overshadowed as part of the great story that is the Nashville Predators, but in terms of what he provides to the team versus what he is paid, he's one of the league's best bargains.
