Staal has club-record fourth trick: Eric Staal had three goals and an assist, and finished with a club-record fourth hat trick of the season during Tuesday's 9-0 win against the Islanders. Staal polished off his record hat trick before the second period was over. He stretched Carolina's lead to 2-0 midway through the first, when he took a feed from Erik Cole, faked a pass from the left circle and shot the puck around defenseman Mark Streit and past Yann Danis. His backhander past Joey MacDonald made it 4-0 early in the second. Then he completed his eighth career three-goal game at 16:51 of the second, taking a pretty pass from -- who else? -- Cole and one-timing it by MacDonald for his 39th goal. "It's a pretty good glimpse of the chemistry that we have together," Staal said of his linemate.

Fantasy Analysis

Staal was starting to heat up before Cole came back on board at the March 4 trade deadline with 13 points (six goals) in 13 February games. But then he exploded for a season-high 18 points in March and has seven points and a plus-6 rating in three April games. Staal was a bit lost early in the season sans Cole, but now the speedy forward is back, Staal is hitting on all cylinders. Staal still has high-end Fantasy potential heading int 2009-10.

C Eric Staal has been going through some anguish since the end of the postseason, knowing he lost the family battle with this brother, Jordan Staal of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Staal said he knew there was too much emphasis placed on the matchup going into the Eastern Conference finals, but he said he understood it was a compelling storyline. "But that's how playoffs go," he said. "It was tough for my parents to watch, but exciting of the two of us to play." 61/1/2009
