  • Blackhawks' Duncan Keith: Won't participate in World Cup of Hockey

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(8/24/16) Keith won't play for Team Canada at the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

This is purely a precautionary move for Keith. The 33-year-old defender isn't dealing with a new injury, but has decided to forego the opportunity to represent his country in September's World Cup of Hockey to focus on strengthening his right knee, which was operated on last October to repair a meniscal tear. The two-time Norris Trophy winner will be at full strength for the Blackhawks' regular-season opener, so this latest news shouldn't have any affect on his draft stock.

Blackhawks' Duncan Keith: Scores two goals despite loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/20/16) Keith's two goals weren't enough to win the game as Chicago dropped Game 4 by a score of 4-3.

Would the series be different had Keith been available for Game 1? The all-star defenseman now has three goals in three playoff games, and on a night where the Blackhawks' big guns could not score, Keith was the exception. He's a proven playoff performer, but Chicago is on the verge of elimination and there's only so much Keith can do. He finished with 24:36 of ice time to lead all Chicago players.

Blackhawks' Duncan Keith: Scores in return from suspenion

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/16/16) Keith returned to action Friday, scoring a goal and adding a helper in a Game 2 win over the Blues.

Keith had missed the past six games due to a suspension. The Hawks missed the reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner in Game 1 and his return helped them even their first-round series with the Blues. Keith, who logged a whopping 30:59 of ice time Friday, tied the game in the final seconds of the second period with a rocket from the point. Now that he's returned, look for the 32-year-old to play an instrumental role in Chicago's playoff run.

Blackhawks' Duncan Keith: Eligible to return Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/15/16) Keith (suspension) served out his six-match ban and is available for Game 2 on Friday against the Blues.

Keith's presence on the blue line was sorely missed in Chicago's Game 1 loss. In fact, without the defenseman, the Blackhawks went 3-0-3. In terms of fantasy value, the Winnipeg native is definitely a high-end option, especially when you factor in his contributions on the power-play. During the regular season, he averaged 2:49 minutes per game with the man advantage while logging four goals and 14 assists. With the 32-year-old set to return, look for Christian Ehrhoff or Viktor Svedberg to be the healthy scratch.

Blackhawks' Duncan Keith: Receives six-game ban

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/1/16) Keith has been suspended six games for the high-sticking incident against the Wild's Charlie Coyle on Tuesday, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Keith ended up waiving his right to an in-person hearing Friday, which indicated he could face a suspension of five games or longer. Given his history of incidents, it shouldn't come as a surprise the star blueliner has been suspended beyond the remainder of the regular season. The resulting punishment will force him to miss Chicago's first game of the playoffs in addition to the final five regular season games, leaving fantasy owners without a key cog at a crucial point in the season. Duncan will finish the season with a respectable 43 points (nine goals, 34 assists), 130 shots on goal and 25:14 of average ice time on the campaign but should be back for Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
