Kronwall continues surge up charts: The Sports Xchange reports Red Wings D Niklas Kronwall scored a goal Thursday against the Predators to continue on his offensive surge. He has moved up to 10th in the league in scoring among defensemen. Nicklas Lidstrom and Brian Rafalski also are in the top 10. The Wings have a chance to become the first team with three players among the top 10 in scoring for defensemen since Montreal in 1974-75 (Larry Robinson, Serge Savard, Guy Lapointe).

Fantasy Analysis

Kronwall has been playing lights out as of late. He has totaled nine or more points in the last three months and is off to a nice start in April with four points in four games. Kronwall continues to develop as an offensive-savvy blue liner and certainly will be ranked among the top Fantasy defensemen in 2009-10. Although, he probably has more room to disappoint than surprise next year.

D Niklas Kronwall received a five-minute major interference penalty and a game misconduct for his hit to the head of Chicago's Martin Havlat in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals. Red Wings coach Mike Babcock doesn't expect the NHL to take any disciplinary action against Kronwall. Babcock fully expects the hard-hitting defenseman to be back in the lineup for Game 4 Sunday against Chicago, as his club tries to regain the momentum after its 4-3 overtime loss that cut its series lead to 2-1. In fact, Babcock doesn't understand why Kronwall received a game misconduct penalty for a hit the coach thought was clean. "The puck came around the wall. Havlat had it in between his legs. Kronwall didn't leave his feet," Babcock said. "He did it on the follow through. He just finished the check. He hit the guy fair and square. "It takes one of your good players out of the game right off the hop. In my opinion, it was absolutely the wrong call. It was actually a good finish check." 52/2/2009
