Zherdev signs with Russian squad: Free-agent forward Nikolai Zherdev has signed a one-year contract with Atlant Mytishchi of the Kontinental Hockey League (Russia). Zherdev was let go by the Rangers after the team chose to walk away from an arbitrator's award in early August.

Zherdev was toying with the idea of joining the Thrashers, but it seems he was more intrigued to play at least one season over in Russia. It's a real shame because Zherdev was a developing scorer in the NHL. He could return in 2010-11, but Zherdev only has Fantasy value in the deepest of keeper leagues. Zherdev totaled 23 goals and 58 points in 82 games for the Rangers last season.
