  • Blue Jackets' Curtis McElhinney: Able to skate Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/2/16) McElhinney (ankle) is traveling with the Blue Jackets on their current road trip and was briefly on the ice towards the end of Monday's practice, The Columbus Dispatch reports.

There was no firm timetable given for his recovery when McElhinney was placed on IR at the beginning of January, but while rookie Joonas Korpisalo has been playing well, the Jackets would like to get McElhinney back into action sooner rather than later due to Sergei Bobrovsky's ongoing groin issues.

Blue Jackets' Curtis McElhinney: Placed on IR

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/4/16) McElhinney (leg) was placed on injured reserve by the Blue Jackets on Monday.

McElhinney suffered the leg injury in Saturday's game against the Capitals, requiring assistance to get off the ice. The injury appears serious enough to call for a stint on the disabled list, and the Blue Jackets have made an emergency recall of Joonas Korpisalo in a corresponding move. With both McElhinney and Sergei Bobrovsky sidelined with injuries, Korpisalo seems the likely candidate to see the lion's share of starts, with Anton Forsberg serving as the other goaltender until one of the two injured netminders returns.

Blue Jackets' Curtis McElhinney: Not available Tuesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/2/16) McElhinney, who left Saturday night's game with a leg injury, will not be available to play when Columbus hosts Minnesota next Tuesday, according to Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch.

Blue Jackets head caoch Jon Totorella said neither McElhinney nor Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) will be able to go against the Wild. Columbus will be calling up Joonas Korpisalo as a backup to Anton Forsberg for Tuesday's game.

Blue Jackets' Curtis McElhinney: Leaves Saturday's game

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/2/16) McElhinney was forced to leave Saturday night's game during the overtime period with a leg injury in a 5-4 shootout win over Washington, NHL.com reports.

McElhinney needed help leaving the ice after landing awkwardly on his left leg. Anton Forsberg, called up on Saturday, made his season debut. With Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) back on injured reserve and McElhinney's status uncertain, Forsberg is in line to start Columbus' next game Tuesday at home against the Wild.

Blue Jackets' Curtis McElhinney: Will be in cage as starter Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/2/16) McElhinney will start in the crease Saturday night against the visiting Capitals.

McElhinney will head between the pipes with Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) not yet ready to go despite getting activated from injured reserve this past Wednesday. As for Mac, he's coming off arguably the best start of his career, setting aside 40 of 43 shots in the way of defeating the first-place Stars last Tuesday. The Capitals are also first within their division, so McElhinney could really make a statement if he ends up limiting the damage from Alex Ovechkin and company.

McElhinney stopped 44 of the 47 shots he faced in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout victory over the Oilers. The Blue Jackets were outshot by the lowly Oilers 47-20, so it wasn't easy, but McElhinney was able to backstop his team to victory. The netminder is now 11-14-2 on the season, and played much better Wednesday than he had in his previous few games, which is a good sign.
