  • Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Earns game's first star in win over Sens

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/15/17) McElhinney made 35 saves Saturday in a 4-2 win over the Senators. It was his Toronto debut.

The journeyman earned the game's first star for his efforts, which included a number of outstanding saves. McElhinney has started 111 games over the course of nine seasons for the Flames, Ducks, Senators, Coyotes, Blue Jackets and now the Leafs. His time in the blue paint will be restricted to rest periods for Fredrik Andersen, but the Leafs play well. McElhinney could deliver value in spot starts.

Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Draws start Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/14/17) McElhinney will start in net Saturday against the Senators, Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun reports.

McElhinney was roughed up in his last start, allowing five goals on 29 of 34 shooting en route to a loss to Columbus. The backup netminder will look to bounce back against a Senators' offense that averages 2.50 goals per contest, tied for 22nd in the NHL.

Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Minor ailment likely to render him unavailable Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/14/17) McElhinney is dealing with a minor injury that could keep him from playing Saturday night against the Senators, James Mirtle of The Athletic reports.

Plucked off the waiver wire this past Tuesday, it was looking like McElhinney was on track to give starting goalie Frederik Andersen a breather for this next contest, but this minor ailment changes things a bit. While Andersen has yet to be confirmed as Saturday's starter, he may be forced to complete a back-to-back set unless the Buds decide to roll with Garret Sparks, who was recalled from AHL Toronto earlier in the day.

Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Claimed off waviers

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/10/17) McElhinney was picked up off waivers from Columbus on Tuesday, James Mirtle of The Athletic reports.

McElhinney went 2-1-2 with a 2.39 GAA this season while with the Blue Jackets, but will get a fresh start in Toronto. It is unclear whether the organization will keep the 33-year-old on the 23-man roster over current backup Jhonas Enroth, but it is unlikely the team will carry three goalies. If the Leafs wanted to get McElhinney to the AHL, they would need to waive him, which could expose him to being claimed again, so it seems likely Enroth will be heading down.

Blue Jackets' Curtis McElhinney: Placed on waivers

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/9/17) McElhinney was waived by the team Monday.

McElhinney gave up five goals in his last appearance which seems to have been the tipping point for coach John Tortorella. The Blue Jackets will call-up Anton Forsberg to serve as the backup instead. If McElhinney goes unclaimed, which seems likely, he will likely be reassigned to AHL Cleveland.

McElhinney stopped 44 of the 47 shots he faced in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout victory over the Oilers. The Blue Jackets were outshot by the lowly Oilers 47-20, so it wasn't easy, but McElhinney was able to backstop his team to victory. The netminder is now 11-14-2 on the season, and played much better Wednesday than he had in his previous few games, which is a good sign.
