  • Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Super in shutout win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/19/17) McElhinney made 37 saves in a 4-0 shutout win over the Hurricanes on Sunday.

McElhinney has been solid in the Leafs' net since his arrival in early January. While his record is just 3-3 in five starts (six appearances), McElhinney has allowed two or fewer goals in four of his five starts. He's solid in spot duty.

Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Expected in goal Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/19/17) McElhinney is expected to start in goal Sunday against the Hurricanes.

The veteran has performed decently in five appearances since joining the Maple Leafs, but surrendered four goals to the Blue Jackets in his last outing. Frederik Andersen started the first game of the team's back-to-back set Saturday against Ottawa, opening the door for McElhinney to potentially man the net Sunday against a Hurricanes club tallying a paltry two goals per game over five February contests.

Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Allows four goals in loss to Blue Jackets

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/16/17) McElhinney saved just 30 of 34 shots during Wednesday's loss to Columbus.

This was a tough schedule spot with Toronto playing on the road in the second leg of a back-to-back set. However, Columbus had been struggling, and McElhinney had been strong (.935 save percentage) to start his tenure with the Leafs. Still, the career backup is a low-end fantasy asset and won't receive enough starts to be considered anything more than a streaming candidate in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Facing former club Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/15/17) McElhinney will draw the start Wednesday night, facing his former Blue Jackets team on the road, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.

The ninth-year netminder likely had this one circled on his calendar, and he'll have extra motivation to shine with his family looking on at Nationwide Arena. McElhinney spent parts of four seasons with Columbus before the Jackets waived him last month. He's fashioned a respectable 2-2-0 record, 2.11 GAA and .935 save percentage since arriving in Toronto, but the matchup is stiff as his former club is ranked fifth in the NHL at 3.18 goals per contest.

Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Impresses in win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/8/17) McElhinney turned aside all but one of 40 shots in a 3-1 win over the Stars on Tuesday.

What a performance from the career journeyman, who earned his second win in his fourth appearance as a Maple Leaf. With Freddy Andersen struggling (16 goals in his last three starts), it's conceivable that a performance like Tuesday's could earn McElhinney additional looks between the pipes, so those looking for spot-start options should keep their eyes peeled as Toronto plays four games in the next seven days.

  • March 19, 2015: Jackets' McElhinney Allows Three In Win
McElhinney stopped 44 of the 47 shots he faced in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout victory over the Oilers. The Blue Jackets were outshot by the lowly Oilers 47-20, so it wasn't easy, but McElhinney was able to backstop his team to victory. The netminder is now 11-14-2 on the season, and played much better Wednesday than he had in his previous few games, which is a good sign.
