Stars give Fistric three-year deal: The Stars re-signed defenseman Mark Fistric to a three-year, $3 million contract Wednesday. "Mark made some great strides with his game last season, both here in Dallas as well as with the Manitoba Moose," general manager Joe Nieuwendyk. "He is a big, physical presence with a great deal of potential, and he'll be counted upon to solidify our blue line for the next three seasons."

D Mark Fistric would probably like to forget the start to his 2008-09 season, when he was in coach Dave Tippett's doghouse at the end of training camp. But he seemed to be back in good graces by the end of the season, and the young blue-liner will likely keep making strides for the Stars. Fistric also had to have a minor knee surgery last winter, so his improved health should benefit him come this September. 52/8/2009
