  • Kings' Anze Kopitar: Claims two major awards Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/22/16) Kopitar won the Selke Trophy for top defensive forward Wednesday, along with the Lady Byng Trophy for exhibiting sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with playing ability in the 2015-16 regular season, CSN Bay Area reports.

Kopitar, who recently supplanted Dustin Brown as team captain, beat out Boston's Patrice Bergeron for the Selke award, catching some by surprise. After all, Bergeron won that hardware piece the last two seasons and has been a finalist for five consecutive years - he certainly was better than Kopitar in the faceoff dot, winning 57.1 percent of his draws compared to a rate of 53.3 from the Kings forward. Nonetheless, the Kings did well at the awards ceremony. On top of Kopitar's accolades, Drew Doughty wrapped his mitts around the Norris Trophy for top defenseman.

Kings' Anze Kopitar: Will lead Kings for 2016-17

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/16/16) Kopitar has been named Captain of the Kings for next season Thursday.

Kopitar replaces Dustin Brown, who was stripped of the captaincy in May, as the team leader for Los Angeles. The center broke the 70-point mark for the sixth time in his career this year. In addition, the 28-year-old averaged an outrageous 20:52 in ice time per game including 2:45 on the power-play and 2:22 shorthanded. Given his clear leadership on the ice, it makes sense the organization would turn the locker room over to Kopitar as well.

Kings' Anze Kopitar: Nominated for Lady Byng Trophy

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/30/16) Kopitar is a finalist for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.

The Lady Byng is an annual award handed out "to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability." Loui Eriksson of the Bruins and Aleksander Barkov of the Panthers are also in contention for the hardware. Jiri Hudler earned the honor last season as a member of the Flames. Kopitar could do well quite well at the awards ceremony in Las Vegas on June 22, as he's also up for the Selke trophy for best defensive forward.

    Kings' Anze Kopitar: Selke finalist

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/29/16) Kopitar is a finalist for the Selke Trophy, awarded to the best defensive forward, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.

According to the old adage, death and taxes are the two guarantees in life, but a Kopitar Selke nomination just might qualify as the third certainty. He's now been named a finalist for three consecutive years, though he still hasn't taken home the hardware in his career. This time around, he'll have to beat out Boston's Patrice Bergeron (last year's winner), and Ryan Kesler of the Ducks. Two-way players like Kopitar come at a premium in fantasy drafts, but Kopitar is a consistent stat-stuffer who should once again command a high draft pick next season.

Kings' Anze Kopitar: Still scoreless for sixth straight game

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/5/16) Kopitar tallied a pair of helpers and a plus-1 rating in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Flames.

Kopitar has been in a bit of a slump of late, as he has yet to find the back of the net in his last six outings and only has one goal in his last 10 games. Prior to this slump, he had racked up six goals in eight games. His two assists in this game does put him at 72 points on the season, though, which means he's just five points away from having his most productive season since 2011-12.
