  • Canucks' Alexander Edler: Done for season

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/9/16) Edler (leg) was ruled out for the season with a broken leg by GM Jim Benning, Mark Spector of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Edler will face a difficult recovery, but should be expected to return to Vancouver ready to go next season. When the 29-year-old was injured in early February, he was stuck in a 23-game goalless drought. The defenseman did hit the 20-point mark for the ninth consecutive year and shows no signs of stopping that trend in 2016-17.

Canucks' Alexander Edler: On long-term injured reserve

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/5/16) Edler (leg) has been placed on long-term injured reserve, reports Iain MacIntyre of the Vancouver Sun.

Moving Edler to long-term IR will open up some cap space for a potential deal with Nikita Tryamkin, a 6-foot-7 defenseman they drafted in 2014, who's been playing in Russia.

Canucks' Alexander Edler: Expected to miss six weeks

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/12/16) Edler has been dealt a six-week timetable for his return from a fractured fibula.

A big loss for the Canucks, Edler's long-term absence will force the club to shuffle their defensive pairings to account for the loss of team's leader in average ice time. In addition, the Canucks lost a valuable contributor on the power play. It appears Chris Tanev may be the biggest beneficiary on that front, receiving 3:13 of power play time in the last game compared to an average of 1:06 on the season. Edler's status should continue to receive updates as he begins the road to recovery, but a return remains a ways off at this point.

Canucks' Alexander Edler: Out with fractured fibula

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/10/16) Edler has a fractured fibula and has no timetable for his recovery.

After initially reporting that he could miss 2-3 weeks, further testing discovered that he has a fractured fibula. The team has no timetable for his recovery, but the Canucks could be without their top-pairing defenseman for the forseeable future. He has 20 points in 52 games this season.

Canucks' Alexander Edler: Out with foot injury

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/10/16) Edler (foot) will undergo more tests but is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a foot injury, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.

Edler's timeline is up in the air, but the Canucks are concerned about him missing a couple of weeks with this injury. In 52 games this season, Edler has six goals and 20 points with a minus-8 rating and 46 penalty minutes. His loss, along with Brandon Sutter's, leads to a hole on the team's top powerplay unit.

  • April 12, 2015: Canucks' Edler Nets Three Points In Win
Edler potted the overtime-winning goal and added two assists Saturday against Edmonton.Edler is on fire and enters the playoffs having recorded back-to-back three-point games. He finishes the regular season on a four-game point streak, giving him eight goals and 31 points in 74 games on the season. Considering that he's on fire right now and has historically been a decent playoff performer, Edler wouldn't be a bad pick in a playoff pool, especially if you're counting on the Canucks getting past the Flames.
