  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Week-to-week with lower-body injury

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/16/17) Letang (lower-body), who was placed on IR earlier Monday, is considered week-to-week, Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports.

The Penguins play four games during the upcoming week, with this news effectively ruling Letang out for all of them. Unfortunately, Pittsburgh should be used to having to find replacements for the defenseman as he has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. Finding just one guy to fill in for the 29-year-old is virtually impossible, so the team will look to split the duties between Trevor Daley and Justin Schultz.

Penguins' Kris Letang: Designated for injured reserve

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/16/17) Letang (leg) was placed on injured reserve Monday.

Letang, who exited Saturday's contest early, once again finds himself on IR. The defenseman has been hampered by injuries throughout his career, including earlier this season. The Pens have yet to provide any additional details regarding the nature of the 29-year-old's ailment, but he will be sidelined for Pittsburgh's next three outings at minimum, if the team designated him retroactively. Trevor Daley will likely see the biggest uptick in minutes, although it will probably be Justin Schultz who is tasked with picking up the scoring on the power play.

Penguins' Kris Letang: Health still mystery

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/15/17) The status of Letang (leg), who walked out of the locker room with a slight limp Saturday, will likely be revealed following Monday's morning skate, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Despite Letang's ability to walk without crutches, there was concern for the defenseman after the game. "He's a hard guy to replace," coach Mike Sullivan said. "He's our top defenseman. We've done it before. He's been out before. We've got capable people. It won't be any one guy. It will be by committee. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We'll see how he is."

Penguins' Kris Letang: Leaves with apparent leg injury

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/14/17) Letang (leg) suffered an apparent left leg injury in Saturday's game against the Red Wings, Sam Werner of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Letang suffered the injury, received treatment and attempted to return. He made it through just one shift before heading back to the locker room for good. The positive news is Letang scored a goal before departing. It's uncertain if he will be forced to miss time, but this latest news is frustrating for fantasy owners since the rearguard recently returned after a seven-game absence in late December.

Penguins' Kris Letang: Ready to go Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/11/17) Letang (illness) is "fine," per Jason MacKey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. This indicates that the stud defenseman will play in Wednesday night's road game against the Capitals.

Letang missed seven games with a lower-body injury before chipping in two assists and a goal over a two-game span to take us where we are now. News of his illness surfaced when he was a no-go at practice Tuesday, but fantasy owners can safely deploy him in this one.

April 5, 2015: Pens' Letang May Exercise Soon
Letang (concussion) may start riding an exercise bike this week, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.Letang hasn't skated or exercised since suffering a concussion last Saturday, so he can probably be ruled out for the rest of the regular season. The Penguins hope to have their puck-moving blueliner back for the start of the playoffs, but given Letang's history of head injuries and the serious nature of this recent one, it's possible he won't be ready.
