Series Notes & Quotes

The teams have now met 32 times in the postseason. ... The sweep denied Montreal of its 100th playoff win against Boston. ... The series win is Boston's first since 1999, when they defeated the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-2, in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal. ... The Bruins improve to 17-0 in series in which they hold a 3-0 lead. ... Boston RW Michael Ryder finished the series with four goals. It ties the Canadiens record for most playoff goals against by a former player. Jude Drouin netted four against his former team as a member of the New York Islanders in 1976. ... Ryder led all players in scoring with seven points (four goals, three assists). Boston C Phil Kessel finished with six points (four goals, two assists). Bruins C Marc Savard, who had a career-best four points in Game 2, finished with five points (two goals, three assists). ... Boston G Tim Thomas had two assists in the series, making him the first Bruins goalie since Andy Moog on May 7, 1992 to record a point. ... Montreal's playoff exit ends the team's streak of winning a Stanley Cup in each decade since the 1920s. The Canadians failed to win a Cup in the 2000s.

Series MVP
Boston G Tim Thomas
In series dominated by the Bruins' offense, it's easy to overlook Thomas' effort. The netminder finished with a .943 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average and never allowed more than two goals in a game. But what really stood out is the fact Thomas' Bruins trailed for a total of 23:31 in the series. The netminder never let the Canadiens gain serious momentum in four games, and it demoralized them.

(POLL) We have reached the Stanley Cup Finals and we have a rematch of last year's event which saw Detroit take home the title.  An interesting turn of events saw Marian Hossa refusing a longer term deal to stay in Pittsburgh to go for a one year deal in Detroit as he felt he had a better chance of winning the Cup.  It will be very interesting to see if he made the right choice.

I read a lot about how the Pittsburgh fans were classless for booing last year as Detroit hoisted the cup in the Igloo.  I disagree, it is normal for fans to boo a team that beats you in your house.  Tonight I see Detroit fans boo Pittsburgh in the Joe, so are they classless as well?  I think not, but curious what those that thought Pittsburgh was classless think.

We recorded a new Odd Man Rush podcast today and one of the topics that came up for discussion was whether the potentially long layoffs will hurt the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks.

Sweeping a team has its advantages in that teams can rest up and avoid potential injuries in l ...(more)

Another typo on the main page by the crack staff at CBS Sports.  Who hires these people? It always makes me wonder.

"Malkin continues to make the diference for the Pens. "

Difference with only 1 F.  I mean, seriously? Come on.

Anyways, great game tonight.  I have been to all Penguins home playoff games (long-time season ticket holder), and

Living in Pittsburgh it is sad to see all these football loving fans pretend to understand and respect hockey.  Yesterday Berry Melrose made a statement that the fans in Pittsburgh were some of the most passionate in the game.  Well Berry you should have been in this city from October to April.  Penguin’s fans, or bandwagon hocke ...(more)

It's my understanding that broadcasters are supposed to be unbias.  After watching game 2 it's clear that the NBC broadcasters clearly favor the Penguins.  I'm sick of hearing about how great Crosby is.  I'm sick of watching an iso cam on him during a power play and hearing about how great he passed the puck and created space for other players by skating in a circle waiting for a ...(more)

...they had two way players.  (I will stop right now and say that Sthall is a very good 2 way player).  The best teams have their best players play all out, all of the time on both ends of the ice.  Crosby and Malkin scare me in the offensive end but they are par players when it comes to playing on the other side of the ice.  Imagine how much more electric they could be if they ...(more)

I for 1 am loosing respect for the NHL. The league only applies it's own rules when they see fit. I think the NHL is turning into the NBA. I stopped watching the NBA about 3 years ago out of pure frustration. I won't stop watching hockey, because I love the game, but the NHL has been a joke in this years playoffs. Their "superstars" can't be disciplined because they fear it will hurt the ...(more)

Congradulation Pens on a hard fought game and series, WOW, what can I say about Fleury, after game 5 I thought for sure he was done and lost his confidence, but I really have to give it to him, to post back to back 1 goal games and make big saves especially in the waning seconds of the both games, I give it up to him.

At least the Pens can say the beat the best to becom

The media sure had the Wings pegged alright- they sure looked broken-down and exhausted tonight. Yep, they sure did. What do you know- another massive fail by the mainstream meduia when it comes to underestimating the Detroit Red Wings. The Wings dominated every single aspect of play tonight, and once again, Irene Malkin & Cindy Crosby showed their true colors. What a couple of gutless ...(more)

(POLL) DOESN'T FIT IN. This is shown clearly by the unnecessary hit he put on the Penguins G, Garon in the early stages of the 3rd period. He is a classless player, along with a couple of others on the Red Wings, and here's why I think so. He magically is better than he was last year, and seems to be playing harder and faster than he was last season.

This might seem bitter to all of you

It's true! I've watched every minute of this series and the Hawks dominate the "after the whistle" activities such as pushing and shoving, name-calling and face washing. It seems like the Wings can't match the Hawks after the whistle blows, they continue to be obsessed with scoring goals and puck possession, which is very boring! Congrats to the disciplined Hawks, enjoy your well earned tee times ...(more)

So far, in this Stanley Cup playoffs, the so-called "experts" have picked against the Pittsburgh Penguins.  This bias does not stop in the Eastern Conference Finals, as 3 of 4 experts picked the Carolina Hurricanes to win the series.  But as we all know, the Penguins have overcome this bias from the "experts" and won two hard fought series.  I do not expect this ...(more)

As long as journeymen and Swedes that the casual sports fan has zero interest in watching other than Red Wings fans or hockey purists keep winning Stanley Cups, this league will remain 5th behind the WNBA and the highlights will be on SportsCenter right after Kenny Mayne interviews Lebron James post game turd.

The NHL becomes relevant again when Crosby and Ovechkin hoist cups.
