Schoenfeld promoted to Rangers assistant general manager

NEW YORK (AP) -Jim Schoenfeld was promoted by the New York Rangers on Monday to assistant general manager, replacing Don Maloney, who became GM of the Phoenix Coyotes last month.

Schoenfeld will remain as GM of the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' AHL affiliate, a position he has held for four seasons. He will be the assistant GM of player personnel, while Cameron Hope will serve as assistant GM of hockey administration.

"Jim has done a great job developing our young talent and prospects," Rangers GM Glen Sather said in a statement. "Our organizational philosophy is to build within, and Jim's keen eye for talent at every level has proven successful in building our organization."

Hope, formerly the team's vice president of hockey administration, research and development, is set to enter his fourth season with the Rangers. He will be New York's salary cap specialist and assist in all contract work.

Also promoted Monday was Gordie Clark, who goes from head amateur scout to director of player personnel.

Jim Hammett replaces Clark as head amateur scout, coming over from Hockey Canada in Calgary where he served as head scout of Canada's men's programs for the past year. He oversaw the under-20, under-18 and under-17 programs.

Ken Gernander was hired as head coach of the Wolf Pack, replacing Schoenfeld behind the bench.

The Rangers also promoted longtime PR man John Rosasco to vice president of public relations and player recruitment. He already oversees all aspects of the public relations department, in which he has worked for 19 years.
