The Halloween deadline for would-be purchasers to complete their deal for the Nashville Predators came and went last week, and the team still isn't certain if it received a trick or a treat. The only thing the Predators know for sure is they aren't going anywhere just yet.

With forwards Jason Arnott, David Legwand and Martin Erat pacing the offense, and the team's defense playing tighter than it did at the outset, Nashville has won five of its past six to climb back into the playoff picture.
It's a surprise to many considering the upheaval the team has undergone since owner Craig Leipold put it up for sale last spring. The Predators, who have been one of the NHL's elite teams since the lockout, went through a fire sale of dramatic proportions in the aftermath of Leipold's announcement and have played under a cloud of uncertainty since the season began.
Their future in Nashville remains tentative as the local group seeking to buy the team continues its attempts to renegotiate the arena lease with city officials before committing to the deal. But after a miserable start, the Predators look like they are finding their game. "It's been a difficult year," admitted coach Barry Trotz. "We've built so much momentum over the last three years. Then we had a little bit of a punch in the stomach, if you will, and now we've got to pick ourselves up off the floor a little."
The next couple of weeks will go a long way toward determining if that will happen, because Nashville's next seven games are against Central Division opponents.
