Hurricanes re-sign forward LaRose to one-year deal

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Carolina Hurricanes signed forward Chad LaRose to a one-year, $875,000 contract on Wednesday.

General manager Jim Rutherford said he expected the announcement to be the last signing for the team during the offseason. The deal allowed the team to avoid going to salary arbitration with LaRose, who made $500,000 last year.

The 26-year-old LaRose has played three seasons with the Hurricanes, earning career-highs with 11 goals and 23 points last season despite playing 58 regular-season games. He originally signed with Carolina as an undrafted free agent in 2003.

It caps a busy offseason for the Hurricanes, who recently acquired defenseman Joni Pitkanen in exchange for popular forward Erik Cole.
