Tough guy McCarty agrees to one-year deal with Red Wings

Presented by Epson

DETROIT -- Darren McCarty will return for his 13th season with the Detroit Red Wings after agreeing to terms of a one-year contract.

Red Wings general manager Ken Holland announced the deal with the 36-year-old McCarty on Wednesday night. McCarty re-signed with Detroit in February after playing two seasons with Calgary.

McCarty has been a fan favorite in Detroit, where the physical forward helped the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup in 1997, 1998, 2002 and last season. He has 126 goals and 161 assists in his NHL career.

Last season, McCarty had one assist in three regular-season games with Detroit. He also had a goal and an assist in 17 playoff games.
