Sabres give general manager Regier two-year contract extension

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier was given a two-year contract extension Saturday.

Regier, who was entering the final year of his current contract, is now signed to lead the club through the 2010-11 season.

"We had one piece of big unfinished business," Sabres managing partner Larry Quinn said. "It's probably the best contract we've done all year."

During this offseason, Regier achieved each of the team's key goals. He traded for an experienced defenseman in Craig Rivet and signed Patrick Lalime to back up goalie Ryan Miller, who -- along with forward Jason Pominville -- received a five-year contract extension.

Terms of the deal were not released.
