UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The New York Islanders claimed center Nate Thompson off waivers from the Boston Bruins on Wednesday and reassigned defenseman Brett Skinner to Bridgeport of the American Hockey League.
The 24-year-old Thompson spent the last three seasons with Providence in the AHL, playing for new Islanders coach Scott Gordon. In 216 games with Providence, Thompson had 35 goals and 45 assists. He played four games for the Bruins in 2006-07.
Skinner was signed as a free agent this summer.
