Former Avs Cup-winning coach Hartley to guide Swiss club

CBSSports.com wire reports

ZURICH -- Stanley Cup-winning coach Bob Hartley has been appointed to coach Zurich Lions.

The Swiss club says the 50-year-old Canadian has agreed to a two-year contract.

Hartley, who led the Colorado Avalanche to win the Stanley Cup in 2001 during a four-year spell in Denver, also coached the Atlanta Thrashers from 2003-07.

At Zurich, Hartley replaces Bengt-Ake Gustafsson, who coached Sweden's gold-medal-winning team at the 2006 Turin Olympics.

Zurich became European champion by winning the inaugural Champions Hockey League in 2009. However, the team has been eliminated in the first round of the Swiss League playoffs for the past two seasons.
