Cellar dwellers making Stars look bad
For the second time in less than two weeks, the Stars dropped a game they shouldn't have with a 5-2 loss at Anaheim on Tuesday, starting a two-game road trip in negative fashion.
Even with that win, which gives the Ducks 32 points (13-22-6), Anaheim still has the second-fewest points in the Western Conference.
It was just 12 days prior, on Dec. 29, 2011, that the Stars fell 4-1 to current Western cellar dweller Columbus, a performance that ranks as one of the season's worst for Dallas.
That victory was the Blue Jackets' 10th of the season, making them the last team in the NHL to reach double digits in victories. It was also their first regulation road win.
And with Dallas on a pace similar to last season, when it finished with 95 points and just missed the playoffs, dropping games like these could loom large for this club at the end of the regular season.
"Every team loses to teams there at the bottom of the standings," Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski said. "Those teams end up with 25-30 wins every year. They're obviously games you'd like to have, especially the ones at home."
