2012 Draft Prep: Our 12-team, mixed Rotisserie draft
The selection of Miguel Cabrera kicked off our early 12-team mixed Rotisserie mock draft, the results of which reflected many of the offseason's major developments. The anticipated move of Cabrera back to third base made him the most valued player in this draft, while the player who bumped him off of first base in Detroit, Prince Fielder, was snatched in the second round with the 14th pick overall.

Hanley Ramirez, who will also be making the move to the hot corner in 2012, remained the second-highest drafted shortstop-eligible player, going 10 spots after Troy Tulowitzki with the 15th pick overall. Jose Reyes, the Marlins' new shortstop, didn't last much longer, as he was taken with the 19th pick. The offseason development with the biggest impact, though, was the expected 50-game suspension of Ryan Braun for a failed drug test. The reigning National League MVP was not taken until the fifth round.
It wasn't until late in the second round that a pitcher finally went off the board, but neither of last season's Cy Young winners -- Justin Verlander or Clayton Kershaw -- got the honors. It was Roy Halladay who was the first selection among pitchers, going with the 21st overall pick, with Verlander and Kershaw getting taken with the 23rd and 24th picks. Not far into the draft, owners started to take some risks with their pitching choices, as the recovering Josh Johnson (shoulder) was taken in the sixth round. Tommy John survivors Stephen Strasburg (7th round) and Adam Wainwright (8th round) went shortly thereafter, and Japanese veteran Yu Darvish was drafted in the 10th round.
