Shootout loss was good news, bad news

  •

It's rare that a team can both steal a point and lose a point in one game. The Predators figured out how to do this in their 4-3 shootout loss to Boston.

Nashville was grossly outshot. The Bruins possessed the puck for most of the game. They also had an early third-period lead. But the Predators found a way to get their own lead with less than four minutes to play, only to see Boston come back and win in a shootout.

On the one hand, it was important that Nashville picked up the point. The Predators haven't been playing well since the All-Star break but have found ways to at least keep pace in the standings. Nashville is 2-2-2 since the stoppage.

Still, there have been some unsettling trends for the Predators during this stretch of games. Nashville has allowed three or more goals in five of the six contests. On top of that, their opposition has scored first in five of the six games as well. Saturday's game against Boston looked a lot like Nashville's Oct. 17 loss at Edmonton. The Oilers controlled the puck for most of that game and outshot Nashville 25-12 in a 3-1 victory. In that game, Rinne nearly stole a point for Nashville.
