Boston U alum enjoy return
--LW Colin Wilson and LW Brandon Yip were both held without a point in their returns to Boston. Both played hockey at Boston University and won the 2009 NCAA championship as members of the Terriers.
"It's a great atmosphere in Boston. They're pretty passionate about their sports here," Yip said. "You definitely learn when I was playing here in college it's a good barn to play in."
--In their last two games, late penalties have doomed the Predators. At Ottawa on Thursday, a third-period slash by C David Legwand led to the winning goal by D Chris Phillips. Saturday at Boston, a tripping call on LW Sergei Kostitsyn with 2:18 left in the third period led to the tying goal.
"If we just play five on five, maybe we can get another two points, and sort of steal the game by winning a 30-minute hockey game on the back end," coach Barry Trotz said.
--In a matchup of the top two Vezina Trophy vote-getters from last season, G Pekka Rinne played the better game, but G Tim Thomas got the win. Rinne made 38 saves on 41 shots and Thomas made 19 stops on 22. D Shea Weber rifled a slap shot past Thomas in which the goaltender saw the shot cleanly and was not screened.
"We were trying to figure out if it's a slider or a curveball or what. It was a knuckle-puck is what it was," Thomas said. "I believe it started out going low glove and it ended up sinking down and curving going five-hole on me. It turned sideways, the puck did."
QUOTE TO NOTE
"We came out slow. In the second period, we looked like a minor hockey team. Second half of the second period we started to play a little bit better. We were very fortunate to get one point today." -- D Ryan Suter.
