Phillips prefers playing to talking

  •

--D Chris Phillips didn't let fans get carried away with their standing ovation during the pre-game ceremony in honor of his 1,000th game. He stopped them to deliver his speech. "That was more than enough," Phillips said of the applause. "It's one thing to play hockey in front of ... it doesn't matter how many people, it's what you do. But when you have to talk in front of them, it's a whole new ballgame. The knees were pretty shaky. I just wanted to get started."

--Slow starts have been the bane of the Senators' existence the past few weeks, but against the Oilers they jumped out of the game. Before the five-minute mark, they led 1-0 and were up 7-0 on the shots clock. What's more, Edmonton G Nikolai Khabibulin had made great saves off Daniel Alfredsson, Milan Michalek and Jason Spezza. So starting Monday, they'll have to come up with a new answer to the most popular media question they've had of late: "What do you guys have to do to turn this thing around?" The Senators are 1-6-2 in their last eight and clinging to a playoff spot.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"We got a point. Obviously, it's not the result we need to get, but we've got to build off the point and take some of the positives out of the game and try to continue to get better." -- G Craig Anderson, after giving up the game-ending goal 17 seconds into overtime of a 4-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
