Perron getting more comfortable after concussion
David Perron is working himself back into scoring form, and he says that it could be a result of putting his concussion in the past.
Perron scored his 10th goal of the season in Sunday's 3-0 win over San Jose and now has six goals in a four-game scoring streak. He returned to the lineup earlier this season after missing 97 games with a concussion.
"Before the (All-Star) break, I was still thinking about my injury a lot," Perron said. "Not that I'm not anymore, but I think I kind of turned the page a little bit there. That break was really good for me. Now I'm going out there and thinking about hockey more than anything else."
Perron had not been pleased with his performance in back-to-back games, but he has to be happy with the results from weekend wins over Colorado and San Jose. He had two power-play goals in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over the Avs.
"It's one of those things where you don't know where it will fully click," Perron said of the back-to-backs. "But there's still some parts of my game missing and I'm trying to get there as soon as possible."
Despite playing through an illness Sunday, Perron had no problem playing in the hard areas on the ice. He scored his goal against San Jose standing near the crease and putting a rebound shot in the back of the net.
"He's being rewarded for going there," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "He's crashing the net, he's slicing into the net, he's taking it off the goal line to the net. He's got great hands and the biggest thing for me, he's going into the hard areas to score goals. That's confidence, that's competitiveness, whatever you want to call it. But that's what's impressive."
Perron will have a chance to continue his streak Tuesday in Columbus.
"You play so many games and you're trying your best in every game," Perron said. "Sometimes they go in and sometimes they don't. Sometimes it's going to hit the post and you did the exact same shot. I'll certainly take the goals that are coming my way right now and mostly the wins for our team for sure."
